Mistress Kalender 2012
Der Mistress-Kalender kommt heuer in Raten. Der letzte Herbst war mal-so-mal-so und jedenfalls war viel los und Kalenderzeichnen nicht so groß Thema (dran denken aber schon!). Aber ein Jahr ohne handgezeichneten Kalender, geht nicht. Also los, Seite für Seite im Jahreskreis, und hier der super Start ins neue Jahr mit Jänner und Februar!

Mistress bei Le Cool #37
Hier nun die zweite Illustration, die für den Wien-Newsletter entstanden ist…im Interview sage ich folgendes dazu “Im selben Schwung entstand die zweite, schnelle Tuschezeichnung. Die drei Mädchen stehen mehr für mich als Person oder Varianten meiner Persönlichkeit und tauchen in meinen Zeichnungen immer wieder auf.” Genau! Unterwäsche und Federn am Kopf.
(Wer es letzte Woche schon gelesen hat, muss nicht mehr hin: es ist nicht – wie angekündigt – der zweite Teil des Gesprächs, sondern einfach derselbe Text nochmal.)

bernhard eder: to disappear doesn’t mean to run away
it’s already been a little while since bernhard eder released this record: at the very beginning of 2011, where the dark and the cold weigh hard on us. i remember bernhard telling me, that this was his “happiest” album so far…that is may true, but it’s still not the summer hits!
i was invited to make the artwork of the CD and (for the first time!) the vinyl edition of “to disappear doesn’t mean to run away”…and we went even further into handmade illustration, than on the precedent covers. i really like the result…it is still not too dark, with alot of white and transparency. and i especially like the vinyl!
it is on this artwork that i discovered, that facetype’s “strangelove next” is a font that really fits with my drawings…i also used it on my calendar 2011.
Jetzt! Floppy Molloy. Eine Krimi-Soap mit Kater
“Floppy Molloy lag in der Badewanne. Sie rasierte ihre Zehen und sah sich ihre Leberflecken an. Dann rauchte sie Mädchenzigaretten.Sie trank Martini aus der Flasche und aß Oliven dazu. Sie wollte gerade anfangen, an sich rumzuspielen, als es krachte. Floppy setzte sich auf. Das klang nah. Da auf ihrem Balkon? Da, wo sie Schnitzel zur Frischlufttherapie hingesetzt hatte? Der Kater hatte doch nicht … Sekunden später wusste Floppy, dass mit Schnitzel alles in Ordnung war. Die Leiche auf ihrem Balkon war eindeutig eine Frau …”

Noch jemand, der diese kleine, regelmäßige Publikation “Hommage, Erregung aus Wien” nicht kennt (oder die noch regelmäßigeren Club d’Hommage im Fluc/Wien)?
Wie auch immer: mistress ist zum zweiten Mal mit dabei, und ist mit ihrer Illustration überraschend am Poster gelandet, sehr schön ist das! Das Themas dieses Hefts, etwas schmerzhafter: Wunden.

hotel lentos*****
Impressions from the Hotel Lentos**** in Linz, where the Kunstmuseum Lentos was transformed into a Hotel for a night. With our 40 m long videoprojection (that went all night long), Tina Frank and I created a subtle athmosphere between Stanley Kubricks “The Shining” and Willi Forsts operetta-movie “Im weißen Rößl”, playing with fictional rooms, appearing and disappearing objects and corridors, textures and light. The acoustic interpretation from Andreas Kurz built the soundtrack for the Hotel Lentos*****. More images are on Tina’s brandnew website and on flickr.
Besides participating in the visuals, I spent the night there, it was great fun – everything happened in public, but noneless there was an intimate athmosphere, and I definitely considered my “room” as my private space. Food, drinks, arts, sleep concert with a theremin, breakfast with view on the danube – we had it all!

Faboulous artwork for great musicians: this is how these things should be! Colorful, layering RGB lightspots by Tina Frank illuminate my illustration and the typography, in real 3D. That’s the scenery we created for Heaven And, and it would not look that perfect without Wolf-Dieter Grabner, who joined us as photographer.
We finally got the Vinyl Discs – and I am sorry to say so, but they look so much better than the regular jewel case CDs. Anyway: I am proud to see my illustration published in that context, and really enjoyed the collaboration!

EP Design: The Unexpected
Following the previous CDs “Tales from the East Side” and “The Livingroom Sessions”, Bernhard Eder releases a new EP called “The Unexpected”. The charming combination of new songs and cover-versions will be presented on the spring tour. For this release, I did the design of the EP, as well as the tour posters and flyers. Currently, I am working on a new website for the artist, which will be online within the next month.
Book Design: Silent Alien Ghost Machine Museum
The catalogue to Norbert Pfaffenbichler‘s exhibition at the Kunstverein Medienturm in Graz (Austria). I was responsible of the design and the realization of that book, which I did with Tina Frank Design. Now it is done, I am really proud of it!
dickschaedlat
Views from the booklet that comes with the CD “entwedá – odá” from the upper austrian band Dickschädlat. They asked me to make the design for their first release, which was presented in February 2010.
My Melancholy Friends
Bernhard Eder released a wonderful sampler. He joins artists, that he learnt to know during his stay in Berlin, or on concerts playing together…so it’s a friends album, of course, but indeed a very good one. I made the illustrations and created the artwork.
